Vigor, MHI Facilities One-Third of Locations Recognized for Safety by Shipbuilders Council
Titan companies receive seven total safety awards
The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) recognized four Vigor work locations -- Ketchikan, Vancouver, Swan Island and Hawaii -- for safety performance in 2021.
The team in Hawaii was honored twice, with the "Significance in Safety Achievement" Award and the "Excellence in Safety" Award, while the other three locations all received the "Excellence in Safety Award." Hawaii was one of just four facilities nationwide to win the "Significance in Safety Achievement" Award. Together MHI Ship Repair & Services, the Titan company facilities were 1/3 of all those recognized this year.
"This recognition is a testament to the incredible effort of our skilled workers to be safe every day," said CEO Jim Marcotuli. "Our top priority is ensuring each person who comes to one of our work sites leaves the same way they arrived, by anticipating and preventing hazards. Seeing the awards across the Titan family of companies underscores our commitment to doing the right thing every time."
SCA honors shipbuilding and repair organizations with the “Excellence in Safety” Award and “Improvement in Safety” Award each year for enhancement of operations and promotion of safety and accident prevention. The “Significance in Safety Achievement” Award is dedicated to shipyards that have had zero fatalities and a total recordable incident rate (TRIR) under 1.0. Vigor's efforts toward continuous improvement on safety embody our Vigor values of Truth, Responsibility, Evolution and Love. By working safe, Vigor employees are taking care of each other and ensuring no one gets hurt or is unable to work.
Vigor completed USS William P. Lawrence (DDG) ahead of schedule in early 2022, returning it to service and keeping our skilled workforce safe every day.
